STEVE GALLUCCIO is a three-time Gémeaux Award winning writer whose career started in Montreal’s vibrant underground theatre scene. Galluccio burst into “legit” theatre in 2000 with his breakthrough work, Mambo Italiano which was translated into French by Michel Tremblay. An astounding hit in both French and English, the play has toured Québec in French (Compagnie Jean Duceppe), and was seen by over 100,000 theatre goers in its English language production at the Centaur Theatre. The play went on to great success is Toronto produced by the Mirvishes. Mambo Italiano was also produced all over North America and Europe. The movie adaptation of Mambo Italiano (2003) was sold to over 50 countries (including the U.S.), grossed more than 12 million dollars worldwide. Galluccio also wrote the Gemini-award winning television series Ciao Bella which aired on both the Radio Canada and CBC. Ciao Bella was broadcast in Italy, Africa, the Middle-East, and the United States. Galluccio’s last film project, released in 2007, Surviving My Mother won the Audience Award at the Montreal World Film Festival for favorite Canadian Feature. Shooting on Galluccio’s next feature film, Funkytown will begin in the spring of 2009, and his new play, In Piazza San Domenico will have its world premiere at The Centaur Theatre in Montreal in the fall of 2009.
