Director
and scriptwriter JEAN-PHILIPPE DUVAL has an impressive, success-filled career to his name. The cartoon-inspired style and originality of his first feature film, Matroni et moi (winner of eleven Jutra nominations) caught everyone's attention. In 2007-2008 he both wrote and directed his second feature film, Dédé,
à travers les brumes, the story of the life and work of the late Dédé
Fortin, singer of Les Colocs. Between 2004 and 2007 he wrote four seasons of
the innovative, offbeat TV series États Humains which won him two
nominations for best director. During the same period, Jean-Philippe
conceived, co-directed and co-produced the series Martin sur la route with
Martin Picard, chef of Le Pied de Cochon with whom he also produced and
directed the documentary DVD included in Au Pied de Cochon's prize-winning book celebrating
the Montreal
restaurant's five years. He
is also responsible for six other documentaries two of which were portraits of
writers: La vie a du charme (winner of several prizes)
and Lumière des oiseaux, (a Jutra nominee for Best Documentary). Other documentaries included Les réfugiés de la planète bleue; and L’Odyssée Baroque, a look at the
Cirque du Soleil's first ten years. In 2002, he filmed the docu-series École
de danse followed by Marché Jean-Talon
which won him two Gémeaux
including Best Documentary Series. He is currently working on a new feature film project.
