Director, screenwriter and Canadian cinema icon, DENYS
ARCAND started his career in the sixties directing documentaries.
He then directed three fiction films between 1972 and 1975. He followed
up in 1984 with Le Crime d'Ovide Plouffe, and the remarkable
international success Le déclin de l'empire américain
(1986) which received various accolades including the Cannes Festival
International Reviewers Award, as well as an Oscar nomination. He followed
these with Jésus de Montréal (1988),
De l'amour et des restes humains (1994) and Stardom
(2000). His work has been presented in prestigious international festivals
and won many prizes. The Barbarian Invasions received more
than 20 awards, both in Canada and abroad, including the awards for best
screenplay and best actress at the Cannes Festival, and the 2003 Oscar
for best foreign movie.
